In order to foster strong and representative democracies, it is important to provide channels for even the marginalized and the underserved to be recognized and assume an active voice in the decisions that affect their lives.

In this presentation, we will introduce the VoIP Drupal initiative and discuss ways in which Drupal can reach beyond the web and be used to foster social inclusion, participation and civic engagement.

VoIP Drupal (http://voipdrupal.org/) is an open source framework that brings the power of voice and Internet-telephony to Drupal sites. It can be used to build hybrid applications that combine regular touchtone phones, web, SMS, Twitter, IM and other communication channels in a variety of ways.

* Introduce VoIP Drupal, its goals, background and basic components
* Highlight real life examples of VoIP Drupal in use
* Demonstrate simple ways to get started with the technology
* Present the VoIP Drupal roadmap and how to get involved
